National Guard CNA Program to Address Workforce Shortage, Championed by DHCFA

DHCFA joined with the Delaware Hospital Association to advocate for training National Guard as CNAs to address the workforce crisis in long-term care, using a model program that has been successful in Minnesota. The governor authorized this program in the state of emergency. National Guard will receive classroom training at Delaware Technical and Community College, and then will receive abbreviated clinical training in long-term care facilities. The goal is to provide long-term care facilities with necessary staff to allow hospitals discharge patients to post-acute care, freeing up acute care beds.

There are approximately 100 National Guard completing their classroom training and preparing for clinical training.
