AMDA Issues COVID-19 and PALTC FAQ

The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDA) released an FAQ  title “When COVID-19 is Currently in Your Regional Community (i.e., Community Spread).  This includes strategies to prevent the spread of infection in long-term care facilities. AMDA passed a resultion on March 19 stating, “that a COVID-19 naïve facility should not accept an admission with clinical or lab evidence of active disease. Instead, care of these patients should be provided in alternate care sites and specialized COVID-19 facilities.”

The FAQ provides guidance on managing dialysis patients, restricting procedures that involve manipulation of the mucosal cavity, cohorting COVID-19 patients, ad admission reassessments. AMDA also provides facility-specific goals and strategies to minimize spread as well as COVID-19 patient-specific goals and strategies. The document also covers visitor and staff issues.
