Delaware’s Senior Living Communities Celebrate ‘Shining Through the Years’ During National Observance
A weeklong celebration kicks off this Sunday, September 13, and Delaware Health Care Facilities Association (DHCFA) member communities are joining tens of thousands of assisted living communities across the country for the festivities. National Assisted Living Week® – sponsored by Joint Commission in 2026 – continues through Saturday, September 19, and DHCFA honors this year’s theme, “Shining Through the Years.”

“This year’s National Assisted Living Week is a special time to recognize the dedicated caregivers and residents in communities across the country,” said Cheryl Heiks, DHCFA Executive Director. “‘Shining Through the Years’ honors the lives, stories, and wisdom of residents, and the important role of caregivers and staff in helping them continue to shine. This celebration is a great way to learn more about this important care and the vital role it plays in the larger long-term care continuum.”
DHCFA’s vision and purpose is to promote an environment of trust and understanding and to provide members a quality professional organization that incorporates educational opportunities, support systems, expertise, and advocacy standards while creating a unified leadership in the long-term care community. DHCFA and the long-term care community, including assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, work collaboratively to deliver quality care to our residents with compassion, integrity, and excellence.
Many DHCFA member communities across the state are holding special events for residents and their families as well as the local community.
“We encourage members of the community to stay connected and visit DHCFA’s Facebook, X, and LinkedIn pages for updates during National Assisted Living Week,” said Heiks. “Engaging with our residents is a rewarding experience and makes a tremendous difference in their lives.
