Description:
Session two turns from the person to the mechanism. It covers drug diversion specifically: how controlled substances go missing inside a long term care facility, the storage and disposal rules that govern your medication rooms under Delaware and federal law, and the CMS pharmacy services F tags most often cited in Delaware surveys. Nurses and administrators leave with a concrete framework for detecting diversion, investigating it correctly, and meeting Delaware’s mandatory reporting timelines to the Division of Health Care Quality, the DEA, and the Board of Nursing, without guessing at the requirements under pressure. Built as a direct companion to session one, and fully usable on its own.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
- Define drug diversion and identify why LTC settings carry structural vulnerability to it
- Describe Delaware’s controlled substance storage and handling requirements for long-term care facilities
- Apply the CMS pharmacy services F-tags most frequently cited in diversion-related deficiencies
- Recognize documentation and behavioral red flags associated with diversion
- Execute Delaware’s mandatory reporting requirements, timing, recipients, and documentation, when diversion is suspected or confirmed
