Notes from AHCA COVID-19 Conference Call Monday, March 9
March 10, 2020 | Corona Virus
Notes from an AHCA call today with individuals from the State of Washington and AHCA’s Dr. Gifford:
Notes from the state of Washington: Very easily spread, has moved to other facilities in the area. Some facilities are stockpiling Clorox to make cleaning products, if needed because supplies are very scarce. CDC is helping out with supplies request. Admissions from hospitals are moving slower than normal, because of the need to isolate patients with the flu or suspected COVID-19.
Stay in daily contact with staff, and families. Get a list of family contacts ready.
AHCA:
- When measuring the rights of residents for visitations versus the rights of residents to be protected from transmission – best to put residents health first and look for other ways to remotely communicate with families. If the experience in the State of Washington is similar – being proactive on visitations is one way to prevent further transmission. Because many younger people will not realize they have it, and inadvertently carry it with them. With the amount of travel that occurs in the United States, we should assume it is in our communities – regardless of any state testing or public statements.
- Also talking to Medicaid and Medicare about a provider reimbursement bump to cover costs of outbreak.
