Participants in this webinar will learn about the key elements of implementing an antibiotic stewardship program that is compliant with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance for nursing homes. Best practices and resources to support program implementation will be shared, including metrics for evaluating your program and supporting data-driven decision-making.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- To define antibiotic stewardship
- To discuss the CMS’s updates to the interpretive guidance regarding antibiotic stewardship requirements
- Identify and define the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) seven core elements of antibiotic stewardship for nursing homes
- To identify three best practices and resources to support the implementation of a successful antibiotic stewardship program
This program is approved for Continuing Education for 1.5 total participant hours by NAB/NCERS-Approval #20240416-1.50-A93280-DL and the Delaware Board of Nursing.

AC BURKE is Vice President of Healthcare Quality at RB Health Partners, Inc. She has over 22 years of experience working in public health and healthcare. A.C. worked for the Florida Department of Health for 15 years; 5 of those years, she served as the Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention Program Manager. She later was the Director of Infection Prevention for Mayo Clinic Florida before coming to work for RB Health Partners, Inc. in 2016. In her current role, she consults with long-term care facilities on infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and practices and provides training to nursing homes and at conferences, including the 16-hour Nursing Home Infection Prevention Program (NIPP) Nipping Infections in the Bud.
NIPP was created to meet the CMS infection prevention training required for a facility team member to be recognized as the designated Infection Prevention Control Official (IPCO). A.C. is nationally recognized in her field and is the primary author of this program. A.C. holds a master’s degree in Health Management and is nationally Board Certified in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. She has been instrumental in the fight against COVID, supporting clients to understand and implement CDC requirements and best practices and creating and implementing education and training.
