Understanding risk factors for C. difficile infection can help facilities implement strategies to prevent its spread. This webinar will discuss patient risk factors, the role of the environment in the transmission of C.difficile, the selection of appropriate disinfection products, and core prevention strategies for nursing homes to implement to prevent the spread of C. difficile. Infection surveillance case definitions and calculation of C. difficile infection rates will also be reviewed.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- To define Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) and identify risk factors.
- To Identify C. difficile infection case definitions for surveillance.
- To discuss the role of the environment in the transmission of C. difficile.
- To review key prevention strategies for preventing the spread of C. difficile infection

AC BURKE is Vice President of Healthcare Quality at RB Health Partners, Inc. She has over 22 years of experience working in public health and healthcare. A.C. worked for the Florida Department of Health for 15 years; 5 of those years, she served as the Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention Program Manager. She later was the Director of Infection Prevention for Mayo Clinic Florida before coming to work for RB Health Partners, Inc. in 2016. In her current role, she consults with long-term care facilities on infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and practices and provides training to nursing homes and at conferences, including the 16-hour Nursing Home Infection Prevention Program (NIPP) Nipping Infections in the Bud.
NIPP was created to meet the CMS infection prevention training required for a facility team member to be recognized as the designated Infection Prevention Control Official (IPCO). A.C. is nationally recognized in her field and is the primary author of this program. A.C. holds a master’s degree in Health Management and is nationally Board Certified in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. She has been instrumental in the fight against COVID, supporting clients to understand and implement CDC requirements and best practices and creating and implementing education and training.
